We're heading back to the Citizens Bank Park folks, where the Phillies will play host to the Braves. Philadelphia has had a strong showing at home lately, and the park, with its penchant for being a hit-fest, might just play into their hands again. This smoky backdrop sets the stage for our starting pitchers, Atlanta's A.J. Smith-Shawver and Philly's very own Cristopher Sanchez. Smith-Shawver has put in a decent performance this season but his battle against Sanchez, who has been showing off with that lower ERA and higher strikeout rate, could be an uphill climb.
Taking the field for the Braves will be the top performers, Matt Olson and Marcell Ozuna, both packing a punch with their home run stats but not sumo wrestler heavy if you catch my drift. Enter Eli White and Michael Harris II, both quick on their feet but lighter on the batting front. As for the Phillies, folks, we have a lineup that's hotter than a jalapeno in a heat wave. Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm are enjoying solid seasons, but the true spectacle here is Kyle Schwarber, a man hitting home runs faster than I can finish my cheesesteak.
Looking at their past encounters, it's nearly a split with just a slight edge to the Phillies. Throw in their significantly better season record and it suggests the Phillies may have the edge in this matchup.
The Braves recent results have been like my last attempt at online dating- a mixed bag, while the Phillies have been enjoying a solid winning streak. So button up that jersey, sink into that worn-out couch of yours and keep those fingers crossed. This is the trench run, my friends!
