Deep in the heart of Texas we've got a Texas two-step of a game bundling up, the St. Louis Cardinals visiting the Texas Rangers. Globe Life Field may be a touch more hospitable to those toting the leather gloves but don't let that get your cowboy boots in a twist.
First up, staring down the Cardinals from the mound we have the workhorse Patrick Corbin, who probably named his slider "slim shady" because that's his strikeout bread and butter. He's had a pretty decent season, punching in at an ERA of 3.86 with just over 7 K/9 in his 9 appearances of the regular season.
His counterpart, Sonny Gray of the Cardinals, always brings a day of sunshine for strikeouts, hitting about 10 batters per nine innings. However, his ERA is slightly higher at 4.11, suggesting a few more clouds may gather on his pitches this season. Both pitchers have had their struggles, but Gray's strikeout prowess does give the Redbirds some balance tool chest.
Swinging to the batting order, the Cardinals showcase Ivan Herrera and Masyn Winn, both with a nice run collection. Winn, notably has hit 5 homers this jamboree season. They do, however, play a background guitar to a silent sirens, Alec Burleson, yet to pitch an earned run or a hit batter in his mysterious undefined number of appearances this season.
Josh Jung and Wyatt Langford are leading the Rangers on the dusty trail. The offense has had a bit of a dry spell recently with Langford hitting below 0.2, but that doesn't diminish the fact he and Jung have collectively ground out 10 home runs this season.
Both teams have been trading wins like old baseball cards in their past few encounters, but the recent 1-11 drubbing by the Rangers do paint a lone star for the Cardinals.
Looking over the season records, Cardinals are ahead in wins, but the recent outings tell a different, more winding trail, with Cardinals getting picked-off at first more frequently than the Rangers. It's like getting lost on the way to the Alamo. Easy to do if you're only ever looking down the road, not behind.
So where does this all leave us in the grand old game of predictions? Well, get ready to do-si-do.
