I hope everyone has their popcorn ready for this. We're taking it to Wrigley Field – a pitcher's playground, this place can stop even the meanest of sluggers.
Let's flip through our virtual baseball cards for a second. First up, on the mound for the Cincinnati Reds, we've got "No Panic" Nick Lodolo. Posting a respectable ERA of 3.50 this season, and a WHIP of 1.13, Lodolo knows how to keep his cool. However, the Cubbies are countering with Drew "Zero Error" Pomeranz. We're talking a whopping 0.00 ERA and 0.61 WHIP; our boy Drew's giving perfection a run for its money.
As for the star bats: The Reds lineup boasts some solid hitters. "Fastball" Friedl has been cooking recently with his 0.330 BA while "Big Swing" Benson and "Electric" Elly De La Cruz are maintaining decent numbers. For the Cubbies, Matt "Golden Boy" Shaw is shining bright with a 0.378 average, while Dansby "Smashby" Swanson, Pete "Powerplay" Crow-Armstrong and Seiya "Samurai" Suzuki round out a lineup that's more potent than a Chicago deep-dish pizza.
Now, looking back in the rearview mirror, these two have been doing the tango quite a bit; the past match-ups have been intense and neck-to-neck with the Cubs and Reds trading baseball blows. However, based on their recent encounters, the Reds have managed to turn the tables on the Cubs.
While their regular season records and recent results hint at a very compelling battle, it must be noted that the Cubs with a commendable 35-22 record have displayed superior overall performance compared to the Reds sitting on a .500 at 29-29.
So who's going to come out on top? Lawrence Welk wouldn't need to draw another breath before I disclose this one. Sorry for the winded setup, folks, but I like a bit of suspense. What's life without a bit of drama, right?
