Philadelphia Phillies by 2Alright, let's dive into this! Milwaukee Brewers are packing up their brats and hats and heading to the City of Brotherly Love for a face-off with the Philadelphia Phillies. This battle will take place at Citizens Bank Park, widely known as something of a paradise for batters.
Rolling out on the rubber for the Brewers is Quinn Priester. The man's been lugging around 4.28 ERA this season, striking down just over half a dozen batters per nine innings. While that might put a frown on some faces, the Phillies are sending Taijuan Walker to the hill with a more impressive 3.05 ERA and a K/9 of 7.7. So, Brewers, you might want to put extra padding in those gloves.
Let's have a chinwag about the Brewers' top batters this year. Mr. Sal Frelick storms in with a .286 average, 10 RBIs, and couple of homers. Then there's Rhys Hoskins, who's batting at .270 with 16 RBIs. On a less glorious note, we have Christian Yelich batting .184. Former MVP my foot! And we have Caleb Durbin at .195. Someone has been taking batting practice with a pool noodle.
For the Phillies, their weapon of choice is Trea Turner. The man's been grazing the ball at .336 with a modest four dingers. Alec Bohm's been hitting the long ball at .327 average. And then there's Kyle Schwarber. Twelve homers! This man's not playing baseball; he's playing golf with a flat stick.
Brewers and Phillies have had a bit of a history, haven't they? Last five times these two locked horns, the battle raged with Phillies taking the day thrice. And let's not forget Phillies' superior seasonal record compared to the Brewers. Seems like they've been winning everything but the Bingo night at the local retirement center.
Recently though, the Brewers have been showing some sparks of victory against Boston — making some sweet comeback sauce. The Phillies, on the other hand, tasted both victory and defeat against Atlanta and had a split decision against the Athletics.
So, after doing all the number crunching and wiping off the chalk off my sleeve, here's what I think.
