The Colorado Rockies are all set to face off against the New York Mets at Citi Field. With less impact from the long ball in this park, the pitchers might just have a good day.
Now, the Rockies are throwing in Kyle Freeland, hoping to compensate for his season stats that scream a 6.03 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP. The Mets, on the other hand, are putting up David Peterson on the mound, and with his fairly impressive season stats featuring a 3.18 ERA and 8.6 K/9 ratio, he might just spin a web around the Rockies.
Colorado's top players have been hitting a mixed bag. Ezequiel Tovar is shining brightly with a .362 batting average while Hunter Goodman and Ryan McMahon are doing fairly well. However, Mike Toglia seems to be stuck in a dry rut with a .179 average batting this season.
Mets, however, have a roster that resembles a horn of plenty. Tyrone Taylor leading the charge with a .311 batting average, while Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor have been showing their skills, despite a bit inconsistent.
Looking at the past face-offs, both teams have had their moments indeed. But the more recent games show Mets leading with a 4-2 win against Rockies.
Regular season records speak for themselves. The Rockies are staggering with a 9-47, while the Mets have a solid 34-22. The recent matchups for both teams have been a bit topsy-turvy. Regardless, the Mets have shown a more consistent picture.
And considering all these factors, my educated guess and a pinch of gut feeling dictate that the New York Mets might just have a winning day on their home pitch.
