The Nats stroll into Chase Field, one of those places where the ball loves to take flight, to square off against the Diamondbacks. Seems like an everyday average duel, right? Think again, folks.
The pitchers for this dust-up are the Nationals' Jake Irvin and the D-backs' main man Merrill Kelly. The season's been neither a pleasure cruise nor a Titanic disaster for both these fellas. Irvin’s holding a 3.47 ERA, 6.3 K/9 across 11 games; Kelly's not far off with a 3.74 ERA, clutching at an 8.3 K/9 in 11 games as well. Not exactly a Wagner symphony of pitch mastery, but they've both had worse days at the office.
But let's not forget the game-changers wielding those wooden weapons at the plate. The Nationals' Amed Rosario is having a better time than a cat in a fish store with a batting of .364, 10 RBIs, and one measly homer. So far in the head-to-heads, it's pretty even-stevens, with the last 5 games swinging back and forth like a pendulum with a caffeine addiction.
