Cleveland Guardians by 2Okay, we've got an intriguing matchup here. The Athletics are taking a little trip to Progressive Field to face the Cleveland Guardians. Now, the digging dirt is generally more favorable to the man on the mound, so the pitchers might be expected to have a slight upper hand in this encounter.
Now let's dissect our teams a bit, shall we? On the Athletics side, we have Luis Severino gracing the mound with his not-so-impressing this season stats of 5.39 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. Quite frankly, I've seen milk turn faster than his strikeout rate this season.
On the flip side, we have Logan Allen standing tall for the Guardians, with a rather commendable, but still not that remarkable, 4.16 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. His K/9 ratio, however, does elicit a slightly raised eyebrow.
Now, let's not forget the big hitters for each team, cause you know, what's baseball without those wonderful cracks of the bat. For the Athletics, Brent Rooker and Nick Kurtz have been making some noise in recent times, while Jose Ramirez and Angel Martinez have been doing their part for the Guardians too.
One can't help but notice the slight edge the Guardians seem to have over the Athletics in recent face-offs. Of course, the overall regular season records aren't drastically different—with Athletics at a not-so-inspiring 41-57 and the Guardians at a barely tolerable 46-49—but the past, as they say, is often prologue.
So, with no regard for sentiment, personal feelings, or the possibility of being pelted with popcorn by angry A's fans, I'm forced to lean towards the Guardians here.
