Arizona Diamondbacks by 3
And the drums roll for the St. Louis Cardinals facing off against the Arizona Diamondbacks at the scenic Chase Field in Phoenix. We got Miles Mikolas on the mound for the Cardinals, his ERA and WHIP have been on the higher side. Could this be the day he turns it all around? On the other hand, the Diamondbacks are throwing Merrill Kelly into the mix, flaunting a pretty decent ERA and WHIP, I must say.
Eyeing up the Cardinal's roster, we got Jose Fermin rocking that .368 batting average, Alec Burleson, the bloke with a habit of bringing folks home sitting on a whopping 21 RBIs and 6 home runs, and Masyn Winn who seems to have a thing for taking liberties with those stolen bases. Watch out for him, Kelly.
Diamondbacks bring their A-game with Eugenio Suarez, man's on fire with a .326 average and yet he doesn't know the meaning of chill, rolling in with 23 RBIs and 12 home runs. Geraldo Perdomo is another bright spark to look out for, he's got 22 RBIs to his name and tying with Winn on stolen bases.
Looking back, well, this tourney hasn't been a bed of roses for the Cardinals especially when it comes to visiting the Diamondbacks. Couple that with their recent stumbles, it hasn't been a great fortnight. They squeezed in a couple of wins but lost the recent ones to the D-backs.
On the flipside, the Diamondbacks may not be striking gold but winning the last two games against the Cardinals at home base and that victory against Los Angeles shows they aren't here to make up the numbers. They're ever so slightly behind the Cardinals in the regular season, but hey, what's in a game?
So, after all that chatter, I'm afraid it's not looking great for the Birdies. To quote the great Yogi Berra (Oh, please! Just once?) "It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future." But without further ado...
