Now, we've got the Los Angeles Angels traveling east to face off with the New York Mets. There's a bit of a buzz about that Citi Field, and why wouldn't there be? This venue definitely favors those who like hugging the plate a little closer than the mound.
The teams are sending out some of their finest men to the mound tonight. The Angels are giving the ball to Tyler Anderson whose notable stats comprise a 4.45 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP, averaging a 7.4 K/9 in 19 regular season appearances which screams "average" louder than a vuvuzela at a soccer match. Flipping the coin, the Mets are betting their pennies on Kodai Senga, and boy is he delivery guy or what? Senga chests a stout 1.54 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, with a K/9 average of 8.8 in 14 regular season appearances. No surprises which way that scales tilts.
Coming to the field players, the Angels got some powerhouses in their corner. Zachary Neto is on a stellar run currently, boasting a .302 batting average with 9 RBIs and 5 homers under his belt. Taylor Ward and Jo Adell aren't very far behind either. And, let's not forget about Mike Trout, although his .264 batting average could do with some improvement.
The Mets aren't in a mood to back down with Brandon Nimmo wielding the bat like a knight with a sword, holding a .316 average with 15 RBIs. And, let's throw in Juan Soto and his 10 homers into the mix. Francisco Lindor though, needs to get his game up from that .196 batting average.
The Angels and Mets have had some see-saw battles in the past. But when they last met, the Angels had based the Mets 5-2. On the other hand, season records tell a different story, with the Mets standing strong at 56-44, glancing down at the Angels' 49-50 record.
As for recent performance, the Angels have shown some grit, taking 3 of their last 5 games. Now the Mets, they're struggling with an inconsistent pattern, winning 2 of their last 5 games.
So here's my two cents on this. With the Mets hosting the game and having the edge in pitching, not to mention the nice little comfort of their winning regular season record, I say the Dodgers might have to give this one a pass. But hey, this is baseball! And there's always a whiff of unpredictability in the air.
