Philadelphia Phillies by 2
So, today's faceoff is between the Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Now let's look at this thing with eyes wide open, shall we?
First off, batter-favorability of the park. Now, I can't give you a number, but let's just say the guys going to bat should be salivating here in Philadelphia. Philly's got the home turf advantage and that's a good chunk of cream on the home team's pie.
The man on the mound for LA is José Soriano. The poor lad is sporting a 4.00 ERA and about 8 strikeouts per game this season. Ranger Suarez, on the other side, is chillin' at a shiny 1.98 ERA with just over 8 Ks. Suarez's gotten a little bit more polish on his fastball, let's just leave it at that.
For the slugger-loving fans, we've got some beauties on both teams. The Angels' got Jo Adell swinging a .305 average and Zachary Neto not too far behind. Not to mention Mike Trout and Taylor Ward, looking solid despite Trout looks like he left his running shoes at home with zero steals this season. Phillies, on the other hand, have J.T. Realmuto with a whopping .354 average, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Nicholas Castellanos, all keeping the ball flying.
Nowadays, memory isn't my strongest suit but recent history does hint at an edge for the Phillies. Last few matches? An edge-of-the-seater carnival, as back-and-forth as a tennis rally with more balls in the sky than ground. But the Phillies just about edged the Angels out more often than not.
Season records and recent results might not be beach-time reading material, but they're telling. Phillies swim above the Angels' in terms of wins and less losses. Plus they're faring better in their recent outings too.
To typography this prediction out, running an eye over the spreads, payouts, pitchers, sluggers, past history, recent form and season records, the money's on Philly.
