Arizona Diamondbacks by 2As we're taking a deep dive into this baseball clash, let's talk about the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arizona Diamondbacks. We're at Chase Field today, where, let's just say, hitters might have a smirk on their faces and pitchers are, well, breaking into a cold sweat.
First up, for St. Louis, we have ace Andre Pallante with an ERA of 4.59 and 5.9 strikeouts per nine innings this season. Now, Andre's had to lace up his boots 18 times this season and while he's not exactly fanning them at a furious pace, we've seen him dig deep when it matters.
For Arizona, Brandon Pfaadt takes center stage. Brandon's stats for the regular season are a bit more colorful - a 5.16 ERA and a flamboyant 7.7 K/9. He's made a total of 19 appearances, and too often, batting line-ups have had a little too much fun against him.
On the batting side, St. Louis's boys have been doing their bit. Jose Fermin's been spanking the ball with an average north of .300 and Yohel Pozo isn't too far behind. Alec Burleson and Nolan Gorman, despite their less than stellar batting averages, have contributed significantly to the Cardinals' RBI count.
Arizona's got its own heavy hitters, with Eugenio Suarez and Ketel Marte leading the charge. Suarez is keeping the average at a respectable .300 and Marte isn't far off. They have shown some power too, which can really turn a game on its head.
Historically, St. Louis has had a slight edge over Arizona in their past encounters. They've certainly been more appealing come crunch time. As for the regular season records, despite having their share of wins and losses, Cardinals are marginally faring better in terms of win-percentage.
Looking at the recent form, both teams are having mixed fortunes. The Cardinals have been alternating between wins and losses, while Arizona hasn't exactly been consistent either.
Taking all this into account now, reaching into realms of deep analysis and wisdom, which is quite frankly a thankless job and not good for my blood pressure, I'd say we're in for a closely contested game.
