Seattle Mariners by 3Well, strap on your baseball boots, because it's Houston Astros squaring off against Seattle Mariners. The Astros are gonna give it their all with Brandon Walter hot on the mound, boasting a 4.03 ERA and tossing Ks around like he's having a fire sale. No understatement, this guy can wind 'em up but, ahem, let's just say T-Mobile Park has a reputation for being more pitcher-friendly.
The Mariners are countering with their own heat-thrower, Luis Castillo. He's been pretty solid this season, sits pretty with a 3.41 ERA and appears every third Sunday of the month. It's like your favourite TV show, but with less drama and more strikeouts.
Alright, let's talk batting heavyweights. The Astros have Cameron Smith, Mauricio Dubon, and Jose Altuve doing the heavy lifting. Last season was simply phenomenal for Smith, but time moves on and so does the league. Mariners, on the other hand, aren’t just watching seagulls. Their batting lineup features some premium lumber in the form of Donovan Solano, Cal Raleigh, and Randy Arozarena. Raleigh had a crazy season with 28 RBIs and 12 home runs last month. That's got to hurt.
Now, history always leaves a mark. The past matchups show a little favoritism towards the Astros - four headbuttings and three wins. But on the flip side, Mariners have been playing some solid ball recently. They seem to have found an expired can of spinach and are putting up almost cartoonish numbers on offence.
While the Astros have a slightly higher win record for the season, I'm throwing my hat into the ring for the Mariners. Home field, positive aura, and unless the Astros bring a divine intervention, Mariners are stacking the chips. Taking the pitching potential, voodoo historical stats, the mysteries of the T-Mobile park, and many cups of black coffee into account, here goes...
