Toronto Blue Jays by 2Ah, nothing like a classic face-off between our fine feathered friends from the north, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the St. Cardinals - birds of a very different ballpark. Get your seeds and peanuts ready, folks. Let's discuss what to expect from this match.
They're squaring off in the good old Busch Stadium, home turf for the Cardinals which might give an edge to the pitchers, of course. The Blue Jays eccentrically present Chris Bassitt who is having a decent season. A whooping 3.68 ERA and a solid 9.5 strikeouts-per-nine-innings, this lad's got quite the arm. Now, the Cardinals are replying with Miles Mikolas, a touch less state-of-the-art with a 4.07 ERA but he sure can hold his own.
The mighty Blue Jays are not coming in empty handed in the offense department. Alejandro Kirk, the catcher fond of catching fly balls not just behind the plate, leads them with an out-of-the-park batting average of .397. Bo Bichette also adds a flavor to it with his 7 homers and 22 RBIs. Then there’s Addison Barger with his 7 round-trippers, yep, and 16 RBIs.
Oh wait, the Cardinals aren’t push overs either. Here's a name for you, Burleson. The young man is batting .369 with 3 homers under his belt. And does introducing Arenado really make a dent? As if the man doesn't introduce himself with his .184 batting average and his 4 home runs.
Looking back at all the feathers that have flown, seems like these two teams have clashed quite a bit. Looks like the Jays have had the upper hang getting the best of the Cards at their last tete-a-tete, yet Cards swung back hard in 2023.
But here's an interesting piece of trivia for you, the regular season records stand neck and neck! Both exhibiting a 36-30 performance, tighter than a new pair of shoes. Geez, and look at how they've been playing lately. Blue Jays have been having a mixed plate of wins and loss while the Cardinals have been following suit.
Chewing on all these factors, overall I'd be inclined, no slight intended toward our southern friends, to see those Jays from the north carrying the day.
