San Francisco Giants by 4
Ah, the age-old tale of the Giants and the Rockies, wouldn't this be a cute children's book? Well, this isn't bedtime, folks, it's baseball time. We've got ourselves quite a matchup at the grand ol' Coors Field, known for treating batters like royalty and pitchers like... well, regrettably, the jester.
Our formidable hurler for the Giants, Hayden Birdsong, has a respectable 2.83 ERA and a whip of 1.30 this season, which is like ordering a medium-rare steak and getting it just right. On the other side, we've got the Rockies' Antonio Senzatela whose 6.91 ERA and 2.04 WHIP could easily be mistaken for my golf handicap- again, this is baseball, not golf.
As far as the bat swingers, the Giants have a couple bullseyes in the form of Heliot Ramos and his impressive .320 batting average, along with Wilmer Flores and his .276. Now let's switch our gaze to the Rockies shall we? Tyler Freeman is on a tear with his .345 average but there's little support behind him with teammates Sam Hilliard, Hunter Goodman, Mickey Moniak, and Kyle Farmer batting well below par.
Now, if the past is anything to go by, the Giants have the edge with their last five head-to-heads looking like a Rocky triumph is a relic of ancient history. And let’s not forget the regular season record, the Giants at 40-28 are sailing in a yacht, while the Rockies are clinging to a life raft at 12-55.
The recent winners podium has been occupied mostly by the Giants, with the Rockies looking in from the window outside. You've got to be a Cinderella believer to think the Rockies can spin this into a 'rags to riches' story. But, hey, surprises happen - typically on channels other than the one we're on.
Pull up your socks, clutch onto your four-leaf clovers or rabbits' feet if you've got any. But in the end, the prediction booth is giving the Giants the nod.
