We've got a real barn burner on our hands today with the Tampa Bay Rays crossing bats with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway. Always a delightful locale for a game, Fenway is known for being particularly nice to the batters and today's game should be no exception.
Let's talk pitchers, and let's start with the Rays's Zack Littell who's been doing his thing on the mound this season with a 3.59 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and average 5.8 strikeouts per nine innings. But don't discount the Red Sox's Walker Buehler, despite the somewhat nudging 5.31 ERA and 1.47 WHIP, he's handing out 8.3 strikeouts per nine innings.
The Rays'll be banking on the might of top players Curtis Mead and Jonathan Aranda, both have their batting averages hovering just over 0.300, while the Red Sox will be counting on the hot hands of Abraham Toro and Carlos Narvaez, who've been hitting at 0.355 and 0.341 respectively. And let's not forget the reliable Rafael Devers.
If we survey the past relationships of these two teams, recent history gives us a mix bag, with the Red Sox just edging past the Rays in the a recent game. But going by the regular season records, the Rays have had a somewhat brighter run. However, if you ask me, don't let such things cloud your judgment because, remember, every game is a new day in baseball.
At present, the Rays have been experiencing a bit of an up and down ride, having both wins and losses in their recent matches. On the other hand, the Red Sox’s recent games have been a seesaw too, with a slight tendency towards losing.
Ladies and gents, it's a difficult call, but I am going to place my bet. Brace yourself as I bring out my somewhat revered, often disputed and always entertaining prediction.
