Chicago Cubs by 2Ah, the smell of freshly cut grass and the sound of cracking bats - the unmistakeable signs of baseball. The Chicago Cubs will be hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wrigley Field, with its pitcher-friendly park factor, might just add to this already intense rivalry.
On the mound for the Buccos we have Andrew Heaney, while the Cubbies will be entrusting the ball to Jameson Taillon. Season so far, Heaney has shown an impressive ERA of 3.31, while Taillon isn't far behind either, with a respectable 3.58.
Let’s meet the combatants. Pirates' Isiah Kiner-Falefa with a commendable .318 and Adam 'The Fraz' Frazier with .303 stays firm as their stalwarts. On the other hand, don't underestimate the Cubs' Seiya Suzuki and Pete Crow-Armstrong, showing off some impressive batting averages and RBI count.
Looking at head-to-head history, it's been intense in the past few encounters. With some high-scoring matches and some absolute shockers, it's always heated when these two clash.
Regular season records show the Cubs are in better form than the Pirates. Pirates are grappling with a less than stellar 28-41, whereas the Cubs have kept their heads above water at 41-27.
In recent times, Pirates have been in fine form, but the same cannot be said about the Cubs. They've been uttering "Wait 'til next year," a lot - and it's not even that late in the season!
On paper, this game is like America's favorite sandwich, the PB&J - always delivers, yet unpredictable. But considering all, the Chicago Cubs are my pick. Here we go:
