Ladies and gents, welcome to yet another electrifying matchup. Today, the Chicago Cubs are toiling away at Philadelphia's charming Citizens Bank Park. A hitter's paradise, some might say, but who am I to dictate what one might call a stadium?
Mound duties will be shouldered by Colin Rea for the Cubs, lugging around a somewhat pedestrian ERA of 3.76, and Mick Abel for the Phillies, who is virtually unhittable the way he is pitching lately with a sparkling 0.81 ERA. Rea will need to dig deep to avoid making it a feast for the Philly sluggers.
The Cubs counter with some firepower too. Matt Shaw has been stepping on bases like they're landmines. Stolen bases, home runs, you name it, he's your guy. Last month's stats have showed some consistent muscle crafting from Seiya Suzuki and Pete Crow-Armstrong too.
Over in the Phillies' corner, they're armed with the likes of Alec Bohm and Nicholas Castellanos, both hitting above .290. But their secret weapon might just be Kyle Schwarber whose home run hauls makes him the demolition expert.
A glance at times gone by shows the Phillies edging the Cubs in three of their last five matchups. Although the Cubs boast a slightly better record for this regular season, their recent form is a touch wobbly. On the other hand, our host Phillies, haven't been tearing up any record books either with their recent outings.
Considering all these factors, it reminds me of my mother-in-law's meatloaf. It's complicated, often hard to swallow, but in the end, it somehow works out, for better or worse.
