If I had a nickel for every time I excitedly prepared to watch the Texas Rangers play, I'd owe someone money. But alas, duty calls as they take on the Minnesota Twins. As the boys strut onto Minneapolis's Target Field, a pitchers’ delight, sparks will seemingly fly, as if they've been shot from a potato gun.
Our scale-tipping match-up will feature the Rangers' Jack Leiter, a formidable mound presence with his respectable 3.56 ERA and a WHIP at 1.19. David Festa, the Twins pitching equivalent, unfortunately doesn't stir up the same kind of excitement, with a less-than-ideal 5.81 ERA, but he does have a saving grace in his strikeout game. If Festa brings enough firepower to do battle with the Rangers' Marcus Semien, Evan Carter and the formidable Josh Jung, this could turn into a popcorn-worthy spectacle.
Then we have the Twins players! Exemplified by Willi Castro, Trevor Larnach and Ty France, the lineup is thoroughly peppered with threat. Perhaps it was merely for this showcase of potential, the Twins were favored in the last meeting of the two teams.
Taking a leaf from the history book, there seems to be some sibling rivalry between the Twins and Rangers with a decently balanced "tit for tat" scenario over the years. The recent regular season records show a slight edge for the Twins, standing at 35-30 versus the Rangers' 31-35. And considering recent results, the Twins' performance graph oscillates like a roller coaster designed by a maniac, whilst the Rangers' isn't particularly more stable either.
Ladies and gentlemen, shuffle up your drinks, adjust your posture on that couch of yours, as this game could end up messing with your heartbeat. But if the spread and past performances are any valid signs, the Twins seem to hold the better cards amidst the chaos. Still, I’d say this is going to be a tight shave.
