Milwaukee Brewers by 2Isn't it fantastic when two of the most enigmatic teams face off? We have the Atlanta Braves taking on the Milwaukee Brewers folks, and we have got stats that would make a baseball computer blush.
Firstly, let's get a measure of our iron-armed starting pitchers, starting with Atlanta's Spencer Schwellenbach. Mr. Schwellenbach has an ERA of 3.40 and a WHIP of 1.07. Highly respectable stats from this regular season, but I've seen better on bullpen benches. For the Brewers, Chad Patrick goes to the mound. Patrick boasts a regular-season ERA of 2.94 and a WHIP of 1.23. Close, but no cigar Chad.
Three top Atlanta players stand out like sore thumbs - Ronald Acuna Jr., Drake Baldwin, and Matt Olson. Acuna Jr. has a sizzling 0.333 batting average along with a few dozen golf swings on five home runs, that's this regular season. For Milwaukee, Christian Yelich and Rhys Hoskins add some flavor to the lineup, but they're not dishing out quite the same hot sauce as the Braves.
Looking at the head-to-head between these two, it's quite the bruising scrapping match. Just feast your eyes on the remote past - that being last year. But what matters, in this case, is the more recent history showing them splitting the sequence.
The Braves have had their backs against the wall with a 28-38 record in the regular season whereas the Brewers have been maintaining the status quo, clinking their beer mugs with a 36-32 record.
Diving into the recent results, I can't help but raise an eyebrow at the Braves dipping their toes into a bit of a losing streak. Nothing too decisive there, though. Meanwhile, the Brewers have been chugging along somewhere in the middle of win and loss boulevard.
Looking at these charming cocktails of stats, the tale they tell leans slightly one way. The Braves may have brought the UMMP to the batting lineup but The Brewers have been quite the handy homeward souls this regular season.
