Miami Marlins are hitching their hopes on Cal Quantrill, their starting pitcher who’s only managed to maintain a 5.81 ERA and 6.8 strikeouts-per-nine-innings on his 12 appearances this season, and, to be blunt, isn’t exactly getting many high fives from their fans. The Pirates are putting Bailey Falter on the mound. Falter has been more promising this season, boasting a relatively strong 3.58 ERA and netting 5.7 strikeouts-per-nine-innings in his 13 appearances.
The Marlins' trump card might be their high-flying Xavier Edwards, who's been utterly raking it with a .354 batting average and 4 RBIs. Liam Hicks and Jesus Sanchez aren’t slackers either, both boasting respectable numbers. As for the Pirates' artillery, we're looking at Adam Frazier, shouldering a .324 batting average, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa who seems to enjoy hanging around the bases.
In terms of recent history between these sea creatures and swashbucklers, it's been a knives-out kind of situation with a pretty even split in the last five encounters. PNC Park, where this grudge match is set to go down, tends to favor the batter so we could see some real swing-for-the-fences action.
Record-wise, we're looking at two under performers. Still, the Pirates manage to sneak in a couple of wins more than the Marlins. As for the latest show of power and prowess, it's been a mixed bag but the Pirates did prove their worth against Philadelphia in their recent homestand.
Now, if I were a betting man, which I definitely am not (my life is risky enough), but hypothetically speaking if I were, let's say Pittsburgh Pirates look stronger, thanks to better pitcher and batter combo. It seems like the Marlins might be swimming upstream in this one.
