What's on the plate today, you ask? We have the Kansas City Royals taking a little trip to the Windy City, to face off with the Chicago White Sox. They're at the Guaranteed Rate Field where the wind can give the batters a cheeky advantage pushing that ball a little further away from the mitts.
For the Royals, they're hoping Seth Lugo with his impressive 3.58 ERA and 7.0 K/9 can be a kryptonite to the White Sox batters. Meanwhile, the Sox are putting their money on Davis Martin with a 3.73 ERA and 5.5 K/9. Not bad but, you know, could be better.
Let's talk men swinging pieces of wood. In the Royals camp, Vinnie Pasquantino is playing like he's been dipped in luck potion with his 0.364 batting average. Kyle Isbel and Bobby Witt Jr. are also on the watchlist. On the flip side, for the Sox, Austin Slater and Chase Meidroth have been pretty on the ball. Can't overlook Miguel Vargas with those 6 home runs and Andrew Benintendi, always a menace.
Remembering their last encounters, the Royals definitely left a mark with a handful of victories over the Sox. Maybe they're allergic to victory when it comes to the Royals. It's anybody's guess!
Looking at the recent records, Royals with a fairly decent 33-30 compared to the White Sox's not-so-shabby 20-43. Gosh, wish I had a crystal ball to know if tables might turn.
On recent form, the Royals have mixed results. Those winning againt the Cardinals look good but then again, they tripped over Tigers. The Sox, however, have been pretty consistent, but, let me tell you, "Consistently mediocre" won't get you a lot of pals in this business.
If I've to put my money (and I'm not saying I'm doing, alright?), considering everything, the Royals seem a safer bet. They've got momentum, history, and a few guys in form, on their side.
