Oh, pull up a chair sports fans, because in tonight's sporting spectacle, our feathered friends, the Baltimore Orioles, flutter west to clash wings and wince worthy puns with the Seattle Mariners.
Ever the hospitable hosts, Seattle has even kept T-Mobile Park's Park Factor a pitcher-friendly 91, to create a nerve-racking cauldron of electricity for fans and the unprepared alike. Speaking of unprepared, the Orioles' starting pitcher, Zach Eflin, with his paltry 4.49 ERA and 7 appearances this season, might want to get himself a bigger flak jacket.
Contrary to Eflin, Bryan Woo's reliability on the pitcher’s mound for the Mariners is akin to the certainty of me making a questionable joke just for the heck of it. A commendable 2.59 ERA and an impressive 8.2 K/9 over 11 appearances should have the Orioles batters departing quicker than a sneaky jackrabbit.
On the batting side, the Orioles look to Ryan O'Hearn and Dylan Carlson to cause a stir. O'Hearn's last month saw him smash the ball out of the park thrice and maintain a commendable .351 batting average. Carlson, is no pushover either, sporting a .289 batting average with a couple of homeruns under his belt. Little wonder, Seattle's protective netting is worried.
Seattle counters with the talented duo of Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh. Rodriguez's .292 batting average is enough to make any pitcher sweat, and Raleigh's impressive count of 11 homeruns can have any broadcaster reaching for their hyperbole thesaurus. Good thing I always have mine handy.
Looking back at past encounters, the Orioles somehow managed to outfox the Mariners on numerous occasions, but let's be honest, with their less than stellar 23-36 record this season, the past glory seems more like the ghost of Christmas past. The Mariners, however, are faring marginally better with a 32-27 record, which in a way, gleams brighter than Baltimore's dim-lit performance.
The recent results tell a similar story, but as any self-respecting commentator knows, the only prediction that matters is the final one. So with no further ado, I give to you:
Albert’s Prediction: Seattle Mariners by 3
