Arizona Diamondbacks by 2
The real diamond dust of this afternoon's game is certainly the pitching match-up. Arizona trots out Eduardo Rodriguez, whose ERA would make even the bravest batter nervous, or at least it would if that ERA wasn't high enough to rent a car. On the flipside, the Reds are launching Nick Lodolo onto the mound, who's settled into the season with a more comforting ERA and a quite decent WHIP.
There are some heavy hitters on both sides to spice things up a bit. For the Diamondbacks, Gabriel Moreno's bat has been burning hotter than the Arizona sun, driving in 12 runs with a batting average of .338. Randal Grichuk and Ketel Marte deserve to be mentioned too, with Grichuk's impressive .364 average and Marte's solid 18 RBIs. However, let's not forget Eugenio Suarez whose stats resemble a rainbow after a spring shower, in particular, those impressive 23 RBIs. Reds' TJ Friedl has been throwing a party at home plate with a .356 average while Elly De La Cruz is keeping things afloat with a respectable 18 RBIs.
Peering into the rearview mirror of recent dust-ups between these two, we're seeing a seesaw battle, with the games played on a razor's edge. The Regular Season Records suggest both teams know the taste of the mid-table, with Arizona ending up on the better side of things by a whisker with a 31-31 standing opposed to Cincinnati's 30-33. Recent results feature a three-win streak for the Diamondbacks, while the Reds have been on a not-so-merry-go-round of wins and losses.
Factor in that they are playing in Great American Ball Park, a place that could make a batter feel as safe as a kitten in a wool basket, and sparks are gonna fly in today’s matchup.
After tumbling all these stats in my imaginary bingo machine, here is the nugget of wisdom that pops out:
