Boy, isn't this just the oddest moment in sports history? Alright, let's talk about it. The Houston Astros are duking it out against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. This old ball yard subtly favors the hitters, and based on our lineup today, we might see some sparks fly.
Again on the pitcher's mound for the Astros, we have Ryan Gusto, solid decent pitching there with a 4.88 ERA this season and 10.2 K/9. Nothing fancy, I'd say, except the Pittsburgh Pirates are relying on Michael Burrows. Might be a bit confusing given his track record, with his 8.89 ERA this season, dropped quite a bit from last season if you ask me.
Now, if we're talking hot potatoes, we can't ignore the Astros' Jeremy Pena. The kid's got a .336 average with 18 RBIs and 5 home runs. That's some serious firepower. Mauricio Dubon and Isaac Paredes are no slouches either.
But you know who's caught my eye? Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the Pirates. The man's been doing yoga or something, 'cause he's hitting .353 and stealing bases like they're hot pies. Tommy Pham and Oneil Cruz have been less impressive, Bryan Reynolds has been struggling a tad as well.
Our most recent history shows the Astros ahead in terms of wins against the Pirates. In the gritty numbers, the Astros are sitting 33-27 in the regular season compared to the Pirates' less impressive 22-39 record. And their recent results, ah well, they speak for themselves.
And so, my ironclad prediction, cooked with all the analytical ingredients and a dash of "call it like it is":
