Now, who you ask shall stand as the guardian of their respective team's home plate today? For the Nationals, it's Jake "Fireball" Irvin with his not-so-stunning 5.63 ERA. Guess we'll see if the Pirates feel charitable. And throwing the slicing, dicing curveballs for the Buccos will be Mitch "The Closer" Keller. The man definitely knows his way around a mound.
Now listen, Nationals fans, I'm gonna level with you. Your best guys, Keibert Ruiz and Alex Call, have been bringing some serious sauce to the table. Not forgetting James Wood and Nathaniel Lowe, their contribution shouldn't be dismissed. But, let's compare notes, shall we? The Pirates - now they have a trump card in Andrew McCutchen and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, not exactly world-beating but their stats are creeping up. Oh, and that speed demon, Oneil Cruz. He's been nicking those bases like he's on a supermarket sweep.
