Alright, right out of the gate, it's a north versus south showdown with the Atlanta Braves visiting the Toronto Blue Jays over at Canada's very own Rogers Centre. Funny, isn't it? Seeing grown-up men battle it out with long sticks, all under the highly amusing pretense of it being a sport. More like a scene from the caveman era, I tell you!
Taking the mound for the Braves is Spencer Strider. Now folks, Spencer last season had an ERA of 7.00 and a WHIP of 1.667 over the course of his—the very few—two appearances. You'd have better luck betting on a three-legged horse than him, I reckon. But this year... well, let's just say there isn't much to report so far. Not much batting practice for the Blue Jays, it would seem.
On the other side of the diamond, we've got Chris Bassitt for the Blue Jays. Now here's a pitcher who isn't 'playing' around. An ERA of 1.03 and a WHIP of 1.15 this season. Now that's some tub-thumping stats right there!
Switching gears to our shiny armoured knights of the diamond, the Braves are coming in strong with Nick Allen, Marcell Ozuna, and Austin Riley. Ozuna and Riley have both been sending baseballs out to the stratosphere this season, with 8 and 12 RBIs, respectively.
For Toronto's side, we've got Heineman, Straw, and Springer. Heineman has been wielding a flaming baseball bat, clocking a .455 batting average this year. Now, that's a batting average that would make even the great Babe Ruth break a sweat.
Now let's take a trip down memory lane—essentially a by-dinner-topic-for-some baseball fans—our past matchups. It's a mixed bag or, in baseball terms, a 'tie'. 3 wins for the Braves, 2 for the Jays. Not particularly useful information, much like a bad umpire.
The Braves' general seasonal run has been... lackluster, to say the least, with a 5-11 record. In contrast, the Blue Jays have been hovering near the top of the cage boasting a 9-8 record.
With all these puzzle pieces in position, I'd say Toronto's superior seasonal record, home-field advantage at the Rogers Centre, and the fiery form of Chris Bassitt on the mound, should give them the edge they need here— despite the Braves slugging artillery.
Albert’s Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays by 2
