Looking at this matchup, we find ourselves in the lovely American Family Field in Milwaukee that tends to be a fair field, not really favoring the batters or the pitchers. It's a regular Goldilocks of baseball parks, not too hot, not too cold, just right.
On the hill for the Athletics is J.T. Ginn, who's having a pretty tidy little season with a 1.76 ERA and a tenacious strikeout rate. Last year he had a bit of a rough go, but it seems he's tightened those baseball boots and come out swinging...or, should I say, pitching.
Though, let's not overlook Milwaukee's ace-in-the-hole, Freddy Peralta. With an impressive 2.34 ERA and an even more muscular strikeout rate than Ginn, looks like we might be seeing a strikeout show ladies and gents.
We have some heavy hitters on both teams as well. The Athletics are packing with Jacob Wilson and Tyler Soderstrom, who have been especially cruel to opposing pitchers this season, while Brent Rooker, even though he's been hitting in the 230s, has some decent power and can smack the ball out of the park when he wants to. On the Brewers side, we have a fleet-footed crew with Sal Frelick and Brice Turang getting the job done on all ends of the field, and then there's Jackson Chourio who’s making quite a mark with his RBIs.
Peeking at recent head-to-head matchups, these two teams have been batting the ball back-and-forth like it’s Wimbledon, with no clear dominance from either side. The Athletics bring a 9-10 record into the matchup, while the Brewers are slightly edging them with a 10-9 record. Talk about neck and neck.
Glancing at the recent games, the Athletics had a rough elbow rubbing with New York but bounced back well against Chicago. However, the Brewers seem to have found their strides against Detroit, only having a setback against Arizona before that.
Alright enough pillow talk. Let's cut to the chase. This game has a coin toss kind of vibe, but given the Brewers slight edge in recent results and a hairpin lead in seasonal record, I'm going to back them for this one. Expect it to be a close, nail-biting affair though.
