Arizona Diamondbacks by 2
Judging by past performance, it appears the Arizona Diamondbacks have a knack for slithering past the Miami Marlins. Looking back at their previous encounters, we see a consistent edge in favor of the Diamondbacks. Tossing in their recent results, it's clear as a freshly laundered uniform that the Rattlesnakes are in a bit of a hot streak, while the Marlins are flip-flopping a bit.
In terms of staffing on the mound, the Diamondbacks are set to roll out Brandon Pfaadt, wielding his not too shabby 3.50 ERA and 1.06 WHIP from this regular season. Meanwhile, the Marlins are bringing in Max Meyer, who has shown quite the sting with his season's shiny 2.08 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. The arms race seems pretty evenly matched, but I have to say Pfaadt could have a rougher time given the batting-friendly tendencies of loanDepot Park.
When we turn to the batting lineup, Arizona's got bit hitters in Pavin Smith, Eugenio Suarez, and Geraldo Perdomo. On the other side of the diamond, Miami also holds a few cords of its own with Griffin Conine and Matt Mervis pitching in solid performances.
Considering all the moving parts, a phenomenal space oddity of a prediction begins to form (and no, it's not the Earth being flat). Taking the recent state of both teams, the park they're playing in, and the respective strengths of their lineups, I'm going with the Diamondbacks on this one. But remember, it's baseball, not rocket science. Anything can happen.
