Oh, we've got a juicy one, don't we? The New York Mets will be storming Target Field today to take on the Minnesota Twins. To the uninitiated, this could seem like just another matchup. Oh, but those in the know, realize this game is more like a chess match in cleats.
Our dear Mets will be handing the ball to Tylor Megill, who's been quite the revelation from the mound with a sterling 0.64 ERA and 1.28 WHIP. Good news if you're a fan of low scoring games, not so great news if you're sporting Minnesota blue.
On the other side of things, the Twins are putting faith in Bailey Ober. Ober's struggling this season with a 7.38 ERA which means the Mets' bats better be ready for a party.
Speaking of bats, let's have a look at the lineups. The Mets are bringing some mean lumber to the plate in the likes of Pete Alonso, who’s swinging a .345 average – quite a barbarian at the gates, isn’t he? Luis Torrens and Brandon Nimmo, despite a less impressive batting average, have shown they can contribute when it matters.
Minnesota, on the other hand, might need to dig deeper. Ty France and Edouard Julien are providing some decent resistance, but their numbers don't really scream "Fear Me!" to the opposition pitchers. And don't get me started on Buxton with his .179 batting average.
History remembers the victorious, and the Mets have the edge in past matchups. But, hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day, so let's not write the Twins off just yet.
Looking at regular season records, the Mets have come off stronger with an 11-5 win-loss record. The Twins, unfortunately, are looking a bit worse for wear with a 5-12 record.
Based on recent form, the Mets seem more consistent in claiming the W. Disregarding a hiccup in Oakland, they've been on a roll. The Twins, however, apart from a win against Detroit, have been on the wrong side of the scoresheet recently.
So, unless an alien abduction shakes things up significantly, I'd be aiming towards...
