Paolini in straight setsIf you've been following the BNP Paribas Open, you'll know the significance of the upcoming clash between Iva Jovic and Jasmine Paolini. Now, I'm not a soothsayer who can see the future, but based on some facts, figures, and a few hunches, I do have a prediction for you.
With her spot at number 6 in the tournament seed, Jasmine Paolini tears through the rankings like a croissant through a Frenchman. On the other hand, poor unseeded Iva Jovic is wandering around like a sailor on dry land. There's a reason why Paolini is the favorite here. That reason has a lot to do with her performance as of late. If we rummage through the recent results, we can see that Paolini has managed to put 2 wins out of 5 matches. The lady has been playing hard, like a fish that fell on a trampoline, jumping at every opportunity.
On the other side, Jovic has two wins from her recent five, with the latest coming against Grabher J. If you look closely at her resume, you'll notice she tends to either win comfortably or not win at all. I call her the "binary player", either 1 or 0, no middle ground, just like my loving ex-wife.
Factor in all the clashes between these two, and you'd be more confused than a chameleon in a bag of Skittles. But hey, I'm going to put my neck on the line here, and make a prediction. Based on the information I've got in my analytical repository (also known as my brain), it seems like Jasmine Paolini has the edge in this one.
