In the BNP Paribas showdown, we're looking at a square up between Yulia Putintseva, carrying the 21st seed, and Katerina Siniakova, entering the arena unseeded. Now, Putintseva has had her groove going on and off, taking one down from Siniakova in July last year, but that's old news folks! More recently, she seems to have misplaced her A-game, suffering losses left, right, and center.
On the flip side, madam Siniakova appears to be back in form, bringing her unseeded but undeterred spirit to play. Despite getting weeded out by Putintseva last July, Siniakova bounced back with a swift 2 set clean sweep later in May. Applying the same grit to her fresh matches, she has predominately been on winning turf.
Taking into consideration their previous encounters and the current momentum, I would be gravitating towards a more Siniakova-centric future. The critical element though, is the love for the game. Both players exhibit it in spades but only one can translate it into a win.
Albert’s Prediction: Siniakova in 3 sets
