Tauson in 3 setsStrap in for a thrill ride, ladies and gents. I hope your socks are glued on because we've got young Clara Tauson and Camila Osorio facing off in the round of 64 at the BNP Paribas Open.
Osorio's performance lately is a tad inconsistent. Wonderful day against Osaka at the beginning of March, trouncing her in straight sets. But then you've got these bobble moments with Mertens, Jabeur back in January; didn't even make it past two sets. Bit of a seesaw ride with Osorio, hidden behind one helluva unseeded façade.
Now, let's move on to the wonder kid, Clara Tauson. Had a rough meeting with Andreeva last February, but that doesn't cloud her commendable victories against Muchová, Nosková, Sabalenka, and Svitolina. The 22nd tournament seed might look like a tenderfoot, but she throws punches like a seasoned veteran.
Weighing on their recent performances and tickling my sense of dry humor, I'm inclined to say that a victory parade is setting up its march route in Tauson's street. The catch here is Osorio's tenacity to pull into a three-set battle, as we've seen in her games against Salkova and Pera back in January. So brace yourself, and hold onto those socks!
