Batten down the hatches folks, this is going to be a wild ride, we're looking at the Virginia Cavaliers and the Clemson Tigers going horn to horn this week. Now, I promise you I won't drag this thing out like a William Faulkner novel, so let's just focus here, shall we?
Virginia with a regular season standing at a respectable 4-2, has shown some decent performances over the past month under the leadership of quarterback Anthony Colandrea - 120.6 passing efficiency, nicely done, butterfingers. No, seriously, 4 TDs and 2 INTs with 836 passing yards in a month, it's like watching a Hollywood remake – good, but you've seen better.
Their offensive charm comes from Xavier Brown and Malachi Fields flexing a collective muscle of over 600 yards and 4 TDs in the last month. Their defensive line, represented by the dynamic duo of Kamren Robinson and Antonio Clary, has held up decently. I mean 15 tackles and 2 sacks within a month isn't a bad stat for an afterthought, is it?
Now let's shift the focus into the Tigers' den where things radiate a slightly brighter hue. Clemson with a 5-1 regular season standing coming at Virginia like a freight train on fire. Cade Klubnik leading them ahead, talk about grade A stuff - 157.6 passing efficiency, 12 TDs, 1 INT, and over 1000 passing yards in a mere month, no wonder Clemson's insurance premiums are high.
The terrific trio of Phil Mafah, Antonio Williams, and Jake Briningstool on the offense has combined for well over 900 yards and 9 TDs in the last month. Defensively the Tigers have Barrett Carter and Wade Woodaz posted at the front. These guys have managed 41 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception in the last month. Wonder if they got a group discount on bruises.
Now don't call me a Debbie downer but based on what we've seen so far, the Cavaliers might find themselves a bit "Shell-shocked", emphasis on the "shocked". So without running my mouth anymore, let's put this orange cat out of its bag.
