Here we have a showdown between the Florida Atlantic Owls and the UTSA Roadrunners. I'll tell you right now, it's like watching two three-legged tortoises race to the lettuce. Oh, they'll get there eventually, but it ain't going to be pretty.
In a glossy, distorted mirror of yesteryears, the Roadrunners managed to beat the Owls 36 to 10. But these chickens can't rely on past laurels as both teams hold an unimpressive regular season record of just 2 wins versus 4 losses.
The Owls' top performer from the quarterback position, Cam Fancher, managed a passable passing efficiency of 147.3, with 3 TDs and an equal number of interceptions. Not the numbers I'd hang over my fireplace, but it's a fair cry better than Owen McCown's passing efficiency of 125.2 for the Roadrunners.
CJ Campbell, the Owls' running back, managed to gain 497 total yards with 6 touchdowns over the past month. Not too shabby. But the Roadrunners' Brandon High, running back extraordinaire, is lagging behind with a paltry 223 total yards and only 2 touchdowns. Trust me, the only thing high about him right now is his expectations.
When it comes to defense, it seems the Owls have more bite. With CJ Heard, their safety, leading the pack with 26 tackles, they seem to be slightly less porous than the Roadrunners who are headed by line backer Martavius French with just 12 tackles.
However, if there's one thing you need to know about predicting sports, it's that it's like trying to herd cats. There doesn't seem to be a clear winner here. But for the sake of playing the game, I'm going to say that the UTSA Roadrunners will have just enough to get over the line first.
