Texas State Bobcats by 10
Ladies and Germs, let's talk pigskin, particularly the soon-to-be clash between the Texas State Bobcats and the Old Dominion Monarchs. Now, I know some folks might just look at their regular season records, see the Bobcats at 4-2 and the Monarchs at a slightly less impressive 2-4, and immediately put their money on the Bobcats. But if you ask me, those people are about as sharp as a bowling ball.
Both teams have been showing some real spirit lately, getting their wins in, with the Bobcats managing to put up some pretty spicy scores against the Arkansas State Red Wolves and the Troy Trojans. The Monarchs, meanwhile, had a solid victory against the Georgia State Panthers, but they won't be rolling out the red carpet for the Bobcats; they've got their work cut out for them.
Looking at the men under center, we've got Jordan McCloud for the Bobcats, and boy, this kid's been throwing pigskins like he's serving at a barbecue. With 170.6 passing efficiency and 14 TDs last month, he's quite the force. Less of a fireworks show over in the Monarchs' camp with Colton Joseph and Grant Wilson sharing the duties. Joseph's stats aren't much to write home about, but it seems our boy Wilson brings the heat when he steps in.
Drumroll for the offensive players, starting with the Bobcats. Ismail Mahdi and Jaden Williams have both racked up impressive yards, and Joey Hobert has grabbed more TDs than my uncle Al at a free buffet. For the Monarchs, Pat Conroy and Aaron Young were decent, but they've really got to step it up if they want to go toe-to-toe with the Bobcats here.
Cruising over to the defense, the Bobcats' defensive besties are Jordan Polk, Chris Mills, and Tory Spears, while the Monarchs boost with Jahron Manning, Mario Thompson, and Angelo Rankin. They've all put in a good shift, but the Bobcats seem to have a bit more bite to their bark, if you follow me.
So my prediction, getting down to the nitty-gritty: the Monarchs will put up a fight – they've got pride, after all – but I think the Bobcats, with their meaner offense and defense, will have this one in the bag. Call it a hunch.
