My Prediction
Los Angeles Angels by 2Alright, strap in. We got the Seattle Mariners trekking to Angel Stadium to clash with the Los Angeles Angels. Luis Castillo, with a regular season ERA of 3.04 and a WHIP of 1.28, is taking the hill for the Mariners. On the Angels' side, it's Jack Kochanowicz who brings a less impressive 5.44 ERA and 1.57 WHIP to the mound, numbers you'd expect from a guy who could barely strike out a fly if it landed on the baseball.
In the heavy-hitter department, the Mariners roll deep. Cal Raleigh tunes up pitchers with a .299 average, 24 RBIs, and a not-too-shabby 12 homers. Julio Rodriguez isn't around just for the popcorn, throwing up a .282 average and 16 RBIs. Oh, and he also yanked a cheeky 4 home runs. Rowdy Tellez rounds out the Mariners' primary threats, even though his .214 average has seen better days.
On the flip side, the Angels are Mr. Nolan Schanuel. Nolan's hitting a sweet .319 with 10 RBIs and a single home run...sort of like shooting a spit-wad in a gunfight. Zachary Neto and Taylor Ward chip in well for the crew as best they can, but their numbers are no match for Seattle's big bats.
Now history does remind us that the past clashes between these two have been as unpredictable as a cat on a hot tin roof, with bouts swinging both ways. But if you're the kind that likes a team with a recent winning pedigree, well, tough day for you because these two come in with near-identical regular-season records. Just a few wins apart.
However, if we zoom in on recent days, it's been more doom and gloom for the Mariners, as they’ve taken on defeats like hoarding badges at a jamboree. Angels, on the other hand, are playing it 'Win Some, Lose Some', which to my mind puts them in better stead.
So, it's time to stop beating around the bush. Weighing the pitchers, the batters, and the flip of a coin, here's where we land:
