Oh boy, I can hardly keep my excitement in check (and if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you). The New York Mets are wandering over to Colorado to confront the Rockies at the scenic Coors Field. Pitchers preparing their mojo to take the mound include Clay Holmes for the Mets, carrying a respectable 3.15 ERA with him, while Carson Palmquist for the Rockies, well... let's just say his 8.84 ERA could use some work. Of course, in Palmquist's defense, he's only had 4 spins on the wheel this season.
For the Mets, we've seen some batting prowess from Starling Marte, Francisco Lindor, and the one and only Pete Alonso. Marte's sitting pretty with a .327 average while Lindor and Alonso have been flexing their power with 7 and 6 home runs respectively. Oh, and don't let me overlook Juan Soto - although, this season his batting average is closer to the Mendoza line than I'm sure he'd prefer.
Now looking over at the Rockies, they're bringing forward their own trio of hitters - Tyler Freeman, who's been putting on a show with a .341 batting average, and Hunter Goodman, solidifying the middle with 19 RBIs. And then there’s Ryan McMahon, who... erm… well, he’s certainly also there.
Looking at historical face-offs, the Mets have been outpacing the Rockies, so it's like watching a cheetah race a three-legged sloth. The regular season records also tell a similar story, with the Mets at a healthy 39–24 versus the Rockies, who are in the basement at 12–50.
Are the Rockies in the mood for an upset? Well, considering they just squeezed out wins against Miami in their recent games, anything could happen. Although, keep in mind that the Mets have been holding their own recently, even if they slipped once against the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this week.
So based on everything I've said so far - most important factors first, wink wink - cancel your hiking trip, folks, because...
