The New York Mets are paying a visit to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the batters-friendly Chase Field. Keeping in mind the benefits it has for batters, we can expect some action from our top players.
The Mets' lead starting pitcher, Griffin Canning, has had uplifting stats this season; compiling a 2.67 ERA, and maintaining a strikeout rate of 9.2 per nine innings. Ryne Nelson will take the mound for the Diamondbacks with a lofty 6.35 ERA, even though he manages to keep things dynamic with a K/9 of 11.5.
On the batting end of things, the Mets' line-up is quite substantial. Pete Alonso, with a .356 batting average and 23 RBIs, has been quite the attraction. Then there's the fleet-footed Luisangel Acuna, hitting .319, and Francisco Lindor showing off his consistency with a .314 batting average and 6 homers.
For the Diamondbacks, we have to keep an eye on Corbin Carroll with his .290 average, not to mention 23 RBIs and 8 homers. Geraldo Perdomo shines with his speed, having bagged 8 stolen bases so far.
Past skirmishes between these two suggest a pretty even battlefield, with both having their share of wins - although the Dbacks just edged out the Mets in the most recent dust-ups at New York.
This season, the Mets donned an impressive 22-12 record, while the Diamondbacks - not too far behind - showed a solid 18-16. Recent results have shown both teams experiencing a slight wobble, with the Mets facing a couple of losses against St. Louis and the Diamondbacks enduring a rocky time in Philadelphia.
Drawing from all these stats, and weights, and odds, and ends - my call is, drumroll please...
