San Francisco Giants by 3
Mighty San Francisco Giants are ready to cross the swords, or rather bats, with the Colorado Rockies once again at the neutral ground of Oracle Park. It's a classic tale of David versus Goliath, the underdog Rockies versus the much-favored Giants. A beautiful setting for a nail-biter of a baseball game, wouldn't you say?
For the Rockies, Bradley Blalock's going to be toeing the rubber, he's made three appearances this season, with a less than inspiring ERA of 10.29, a WHIP of 2.00, and a grim 3.9 K/9...yikes! Arming the Giants, we've got Jordan Hicks. Now, Hicks is breathing just a little bit easier with an ERA of 6.17, a WHIP of 1.53, and a more respectable 7.6 K/9 across six appearances. However, both could use a good performance to boost those regular season stats.
Looking to pick up those bats, for the Rockies, we've got the likes of Jordan Beck, Hunter Goodman, and Brenton Doyle. Beck and Goodman, with their home runs and decent RBIs, seem to be doing their share of the heavy lifting. For the Giants, Lee Jung Hoo, Tyler Fitzgerald, and Mike Yastrzemski, among others, are on deck. Fitzgerald caught my eye with his 0.284 batting average and several stolen bases.
Taking a look back at previous encounters, the Giants have come out on top four out of the last five meetings. The Rockies, no doubt, will be hoping to even the score a bit...or at least not let it slide any further.
In terms of their season records, the Giants are the clear front-runners with a 19-13 win-loss entry, whereas the Rockies are languishing behind at 6-25. Once you mix in the recent tense clashes and the fact that the Giants seem to have a flair for dramatic finishes...well, you don't need to be a statistician.
Taking it all into account, the Rockies do seem to face an uphill battle, not that it's anything new for a geology-based team.
