Detroit Tigers by 3Let's dive into this Detroit Tigers versus Los Angeles Angels matchup, shall we?
In one corner, we've got Jack Flaherty of the Tigers taking the mound with an impressive 3.52 ERA and a high strikeout rate to boot. Standing across from him is none other than the Angels' Kyle Hendricks who's admittedly seen better days with a not-so-spiffy 6.65 ERA. Might be time for some new glasses, eh Kyle?
We've got some mighty hitters for the Tigers, notably Zach McKinstry with his .318 batting average and Spencer Torkelson who despite his low batting average appears to have been practicing his home run trot with 8 homers this season. Over in Angels' territory, Mike Trout is usually the man of the hour but he's seen some hiccups this year with a paltry .194 batting average. However, Logan O'Hoppe has stepped up to the plate, swinging a mean bat with a .298 average and 8 home runs.
Digging into past matchups, the Tigers have apparently been on a grizzly bear diet, consuming the Angels three out of the last five times they’ve met. And while we're at it, just a quick glance at their recent results and it’s clear that Tigers are in better form, sporting a fetching 20-12 regular season record compared to the less savory 12-18 for the Angels.
Maybe the good old California sunshine will do the Angels good as they'll be hosting at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, with a park factor leaning towards batters, but let's not kid ourselves, given the stats, the stage is set for the Tigers to tango.
