Arizona Diamondbacks by 2
Isn't it a hoot that we're stacking up the Diamondbacks against the Phillies today at our beloved Citizens Bank Park? Long story short, let's get you some juicy tidbits.
Aaron Nola, leading the front for the Phillies, has had a bit of a rough time this season. Commanding a droopy 5.51 ERA compared to his pal Brandon Pfaadt from the Diamondbacks, who's rocking a 2.81 ERA, makes one squint a bit at the scoreboard. Throw in the park favoring hitters, and it's starting to smell like trouble for the hometown crowd.
Now, if we look at the troops, the Diamondbacks have got some heavy hitters. You got Josh Naylor and Pavin Smith, both batting solid .304, with the latter also knocking in 8. Eugenio Suarez, unfortunately, is hitting for a rough .172 and missing the stolen base party entirely.
For the Phillies, Trea Turner is just a shade above our D-Back boys, with a .310 batting average and some swift feet on the bases, having stolen 6 already. Kudos to him. Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper are swinging away, but could certainly use a visit from the batting average fairy. Harper’s bat's about as cold as my ex's heart. Of course, when mentioning cold, Nicholas Castellanos isn’t gasping for air with his .267 and somewhat decent RBI numbers.
Past performance coins a story that both teams have had their epic wins and crushing losses, but maybe the gift shop has a sale on brooms as the D-Backs swept their recent series in Philadelphia.
Records show both teams on a level playing field - tied 17-14. Recent results for Arizona unfortunately speak volumes, with a narrow loss against Phils on May 2nd, followed by hits and misses right before. Our local Phillies held their own, with a couple of victories against Washington but had a dance with defeat too.
Painting broad strokes here, but the scales seem tipped in favor of the Diamondbacks. Even without teasing a margin, my money's on them. Just get us some soft pretzels and hold onto your hats, cause we might just see a nailbiter.
