Well, aren't we in for a snorer. We have the Washington Nationals taking a delightful vacation to the Great American Ball Park. Home sweet home for the Reds where we've seen batters thrive, no doubt due to the park's generosity to their kind.
Nick Lodolo gets to strut his stuff on the pitcher's mound for the Reds. Man's at 2.34 ERA, 0.90 WHIP. Six appearances and still going strong, which is more than I can say for someone whose name rhymes with Clever Swilliams. Trevor Williams, for those not fluent in bad puns, is the Nationals' rather unfortunate pick for the day with a 5.84 ERA and 1.57 WHIP.
Let's flip the cards and peek at the top players. The Reds have Austin Wynns batting a juicy .387, while Jose Trevino and Noelvi Marte aren't trailing too far behind. The Nationals answer back with... well, they've got their own little gang led by CJ Abrams. And though poor Nathaniel Lowe looks like he's seen better days with his .217 batting average, a lot can change in a game – we'll see.
Historically, picking the winner between these two equates to flipping a coin. Both have their share of glory and gloom when they've met. But if we're hitched on bad memory lane, the most recent one was in the Reds' favor.
Looking at regular season records, we've got the Reds with a hardly impressive 17-15. However, that makes the Nationals’ 14-18 record look like something my cat coughed up.
Finally, the recent results. Let's just say the Nationals might want to petition for a mercy rule if their current streak continues. But on the flip side, the Reds seem to have found their groove, looking real spicy in their recent bouts.
Sigh, I know it's rude to point out the obvious but here we are. In the immortal words of Shakespeare, "The numbers don't lie, buddy."
