From the City of Lakes, we're going to see the birds from the west coast, the Los Angeles Angels, lock horns with our hometown heros, the Minnesota Twins at the comfy confines of Target Field. It has always been kind to those wielding the hickory out there.
On the mound today, we've got proven warrior Kyle Hendricks starting for the Angels. He's toting a 4.50 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP over his four regular season appearances this year. For the Twins, young buck Simeon Woods Richardson takes the hill with his slightly inflated 4.92 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP in, also, just four games on record.
The Halos have the much talked about Logan O'Hoppe, who's ringing in with a .284 average, along with Mike Trout who seems to be struggling a bit this season, but we all know he can take any ball out of the park, even in his dreams. Nolan Schanuel's stepping up to the plate, too, and showing some pop.
Over in the Twins’ dugout, we see Ryan Jeffers who's batting .254, and turbo-charged Byron Buxton with .225 but 12 RBIs, 5 homers and more steals than a cheap videogame.
Both these teams have traded blows recently, but the Twins seem to edge the Angels in head-to-head match ups - call me old fashioned, but I think that does matter a bit. The Angels though, are having a wee bit a more consistent season so far, but their recent form resembles a roller-coaster ride. On the other hand, Twins, even with a rocky season record, have mostly found their feet in the recent past.
So, this calls for me to get my crystal ball out and dish out my prediction. With their head-to-head history, the Twins' comeback-ability at Target Field, and the recently seen momentum they are enjoying, my money is on the boys clad in navy-blue. It should be a close one though and not a whole lot of daylight between them.
