In our imminent matchup, we find the New York Yankees taking on the Cleveland Guardians, in none other than the quaint hallowed grounds of Progressive Field in Cleveland. Now, not to knock on any Midwest charm, but Progressive Field isn't exactly a slugger's paradise. I’m not saying it's tough for batters, but pigeons fly over the stadium backwards to avoid getting humiliated by fly balls.
Let's start with our guys on the mound. New York will be parading out Carlos Rodon to the mound, carrying a 4.45 ERA with him. He's had 5 starts this season and his WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched) stands at a reasonable 1.13. Not too shabby. His Cleveland counterpart, Luis Ortiz, hasn't been as successful, if we're being kind here. His ERA is puffing up its chest at 5.74 with a WHIP of 1.47 accompanying it on the field after 4 starts.
With the spotlight on the players themselves, the Yankees boast an impressive line-up, topped by Aaron Judge, who's currently knocking the stitches off the baseball with a formidable .411 batting average. Add to that Paul Goldschmidt still finding his way home with a respectable .371 average, and Jazz Chisholm Jr., whose .159 batting average is living proof that miracles do happen.
The Guardians have their own horsemen in Angel Martinez, with a decent .361 batting average, Steven Kwan and his .341, and Kyle Manzardo who’s making fans blink twice with his .219. Now Jose Ramirez, despite his ordinary .263, still mashes ball with his 5 homers.
Looking at the history between these two teams, it's like they're playing hot potato with the victories. However, the Guardians' recent results do suggest they have a knack for pulling games from the fire.
So who's my money on, you ask? Well, I like my jabs at Cleveland, but numbers speak louder than my dry wit.
