Kansas City Royals by 3Let's have a roundtable chat about this fascinating face-off between the Colorado Rockies and the Kansas City Royals. The setting? The scenic Kauffman Stadium, notorious for being just a smidge bit home run friendly.
With their, how do I say this diplomatically... "non-spectacular" 4-18 record, the Rocky mountain boys are looking to up their ante. The Royals, sitting with a 10-14 record, aren't exactly setting the scoreboard ablaze either but they've got the edge in this encounter. The last couple of games between these two teams went quite favorably for the boys from Kansas City.
Let's cut to the chase, or more accurately, to Chase Dollander the expected starter for the Rockies; with an ERA that's north of 7 and a WHIP nearing 2, he's not exactly the most calming presence on the mound. The Royals counter with Michael Lorenzen who, while nothing to write home about, seems to be a safer bet given his somewhat fewer struggles on the diamond.
Over to the heart of the batting orders, the Royals have Bobby Witt Jr., a man in fine form boasting a .315 average and 6 stolen bases. Accompanying him are Drew Waters, Maikel Garcia, and let's not forget Salvador Perez, a crowd favorite despite him having a 'rough patch' lately. On the Rockies side, Brenton Doyle, Nick Martini and Hunter Goodman are performing admirably despite their team’s struggles.
If I were a puppet master and could control the strings of this baseball theater, based on how their season's stats are looking and recent performance trends, I'd have to place a decent wager on Kansas City to quite royally rule over Colorado. While I don't foresee an absolute demolition, a decent margin of victory seems likely.
