Felix Auger-Aliassime in 4 sets.Ah, the age-old battle rages on - the unseeded underdog versus the 25th seed favorite. What a sight to behold!
In the left corner, we have the unseeded German giant, Jan-Lennard Struff. A dark horse, taking on the odds with a recently mixed bag of results. He's had a couple of wins like the one against Arnaldi and Mišolić, sandwiching a trio of losses at the hands of Sonego, Lehečka, and Ofner. It's fair to say recent form hasn't always been on his side; nevertheless, let's not forget he has a victory against our seeded star under his belt.
Enter Felix Auger-Aliassime, the 25th seed. Clearly seen as the favorite in this matchup, but not without a hint of volatility in his recent performances. Auger-Aliassime had a tough fight against Duckworth, barely clinching with a 3 to 2 set win the other day, and had a mild hiccup against Griekspoor. Still, our young Canadian has been showing signs of vigor, having bested Međedović and Rinderknech, even though Khachanov did rain on his parade a bit.
Past matchups show this duo with a history of intriguing performances. Out of their three meetups, Auger-Aliassime has walked away victorious twice, whereas Struff only once. As history would have it, Auger-Aliassime does seem to have the edge in this matchup.
My take? Give Auger-Aliassime a challenging day on the court, and this young man thrives. This matchup might just be what he needs to show his mettle. I am putting my prediction on him savoring the taste of victory once again against Struff. However, given the tough competition we've seen from Struff before, Felix might not be able to wrap this up in straight sets.
