Shapovalov in 4 sets. Now, anyone for a spot of tea?
Crunching the numbers and biting into the stats, we take a look at our competitors, Mariano Navone, a unseeded chap showing he has some fight, and our 27th seed Denis Shapovalov, a young tyro but hasn't exactly been the belle of the ball recently.
Shapovalov has been on a bit of a slide, losing three of the last five matches. Got a lovely win over Humbert in June though, a three-set victory which might have injected some buoyancy into his play. Not panoramic success, but the man hasn’t completely dropped the racket.
Navone on the other hand might be unseeded but he's been serving up more surprises than a jack-in-the-box. Been smashing backhands lately, with wins over Opelka and Nakashima in late May. Recent form has dipped a touch, and depth in matches may be a concern with more losses than most sports commentators change ties. Trust me, that's quite a bit.
Tournament seed plays its part too. Shapovalov being the 27th seed adds weight to his side of the scale, but we all know, tennis, much like my aunt's tiramisu, can be unpredictable.
So, taking all into consideration, if I were a betting man, and I've tossed a Benny or two on the ponies before, I would lean towards the man favored by the bookies.
Albert’s Prediction: Shapovalov in 4 sets. Now, anyone for a spot of tea?
