Sabalenka in 3 setsAh, the WTA Finals. As exhilarating as finding out your accountant made an error and you owe less taxes than expected. Here we have the quintessential matchup of the young blood against the seasoned, like a boxing match but with fewer body slams and more white apparel.
We find Coco Gauff - the 3rd seed, toeing the baseline ready to bludgeon the ball back to Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed in the tournament. But hey, seeds are just numbers, right? Well, as of late, these numbers say Sabalenka has a better edge at solo guitar than Gauff at backup vocals.
Their history together is about as cozy as a reunion between Family Feud contestants. The seesaw tussle has been tip-toeing more towards Sabalenka who won 2 out of 3 past matchups. Gauff fans remember the Sept 9, 2023 victory, but hey, we still used wired headphones back then.
Gauff's recent track record has some ups with victories over Świątek and Pegula, but a downer with Krejčíková, and of course, our friend Sabalenka. A bit like a see-saw with a heavyweight on one end.
