Anisimova in straight sets.
As we look at this divine comedy, that is Wimbledon, we've got Yulia Putintseva and Amanda Anisimova locked in a duel that just might resemble a Shakespearean tragedy for one of them.
When we glance back at the historical narrative between these two, Anisimova has swept Putintseva off her feet in a classic, no-love-lost kind of way, giving no quarter in their last two meetings. Not much rhyme or reason to bet against history here, my friends.
However, Anisimova took a couple of falls recently - losing two out of her last five games. On the other hand, Putintseva seems to have her surfboard out, riding a wave of underperformance with defeats in four of her previous games. It is almost like watching a tennis version of a slow-motion car crash.
Moreover, Anisimova comes into this game as the 13th seed, while Putintseva doesn't even make it to the seeding party at all. Putintseva should perhaps take a moment to tip her hat at Anisimova, for teaching her an important lesson on what it feels like to be the underdog.
So, in this planned reunion, it’s fair to anticipate that our friend Anisimova could very comfortably slip into her familiar role of tennis samurai, slicing and dicing Putintseva’s hapless challenges for another rendezvous with victory.
Albert’s Prediction: Anisimova in straight sets.
