You know, I’ve heard a lot of whispering about this matchup, so let's cut right to it. Magda Linette and Elsa Jacquemot are squaring off again. History lessons are my least favorite thing, but it’s worth mentioning that Linette seems to have Jacquemot’s number, besting her 2 love previously, much like that dreadful date I had back in the 90s.
Now, Jac, despite being unseeded, has been dishing out some delightful tennis, hitting straight set wins as if she's handing out samples at a mall food court. However, she stumbled a little bit against Jabeur and Boisson, losing 2 sets to 1. Those losses knock a bit of shine off her game, much like my receding hairline.
Linette, on the other hand, ranked 27th, had a tricky time facing off against Yastremska, reminding me of when I try to do my taxes. Her game was much stronger against Mingge Xu, Tauson, and Eala, with straight set victories, an admirable comeback and a sign of resilience.
Even with Jacquemot putting up a good fight lately, I'd wager that this matchup will favor the more experienced Linette, just like a turtle race tends to favor the turtle who's been around the racetrack a few times, if you catch my drift.
Albert’s Prediction: Linette in 3 sets.
